Shinra Sunken Ship Gelnika Sidequest

Items stored in the Gelnika: δHeaven's Cloud, δConformer, δSpirit Lance, δOutsider, δEscort Guard, δHighwind Limit, ODouble Cut, OHades, 2 δMegalixirs.

The Gelnika is a sunken airship: you can gain access to it right after you get control of the submarine. It is located southwest of Costa Del Sol, when heading to the river that separates the western continent.

The place is filled with invaluable items, equipment and materia, so it is definitely worth a look. However, the opposition in the sunken airship is rather strong: the Serpent, Unknown, Unknown 2 and Unknown 3 are extremely tough opponents with a lot of HP and powerful attacks. On the other hand, the Poodler, and Bad Rap come in groups, and are easier to defeat despite the fair amount of HP they have (note that these last two enemies only appear in the room beyond where you can fight Reno and Rude; for more information, see below).

We strongly recommand the use of some higher-level materia, like OContain, or the OUltima+OQuadra Magic combo. Do not hesitate to also take advantage of your best Summon materia. Finally, using characters like Barret or Vincent with long-ranged weapons can greatly increase your lifespan. The various monsters here can inflict you some status ailments (in particular, the Unknown 2 can inflict Confusion, which can be devastating depending on the power of your characters), so don't forget to equip at least one δRibbon. And finally, use the save point often: it's very easy to lose against the monsters present here, so bring a lot of δTents when you come.

The sunken airship is divided into four rooms. The first one you enter is a lobby, with a save point and the δHeaven's Cloud. You won't encounter any enemies in here, so don't worry (yet) - but save your game.

From there, go up: it will lead you to a small room with a catwalk. Pick up the δConformer and the δMegalixir in the two chests, and grab the ODouble Cut materia and the δEscort Guard. After that, go back and save again.

If you go left from the save point room, you'll enter a small room. Depending on when in the game you come to this room, you may or may not encounter Reno and Rude. If you go to the Gelnika before the raid on Midgar at the end of Disc 2, then you will fight them. If you come during Disc 3, they won't be here.

It is very important that you equip the OSteal materia, as the two Turks carry around a δZiedrich and δTough Ring, some of the rarest and most powerful equipment in the game. Other than that, the battle in itself isn't that difficult, except for the nasty confusion status that Reno can inflict on your characters. After defeating them, they leave once again. Go back and save, then proceed to the final room.

In this room, you'll fight the Unknown type monsters. Various pieces of equipment lie there: another δMegalixir, the δSpirit Lance, the δOutsider, the δHighwind limit for Cid and the OHades materia.

Once you've acquired all of these, there's nothing left to collect. However, you can put the δConformer you obtain to great use by fighting and morphing all the monsters present in the Gelnika. Each of them lands you a Source item in return. Check the list below to find what you're looking for.
