Golbez

Golbez: Image

Biography

Written by  Karasuman
Contributor
Golbez is the mysterious force behind the king of Baron's sudden lust for power. Very little is known about him as the story begins, but Cecil takes it upon himself to thwart his sinister designs.

Additional Information

Golbez's first personal entrance is during the attack on Fabul, when he sends Kain to duel Cecil and then steals the crystal and kidnaps Rosa. From there, he retires to the Tower of Zot to plan his next move.

Golbez is responsible for sending the Four Fiends to stop Cecil, but his real goal is to acquire all of the crystals. Cecil is a thorn in his side, however, and Kain's plan to lure Cecil to the Tower of Zot and trade Rosa for the Earth Crystal is endorsed by Golbez, who plans to kill Cecil then.

Tellah's spell temporarily weakens Golbez, however, and he leaves Cecil alive, fleeing the Tower. After that, Golbez avoids confronting Cecil directly, instead using his influence over Kain to achieve his ends.

It's not until the fight inside the Giant of Babil that Golbez's power is broken. Golbez learns that he was being controlled by a Lunarian known as Zemus and bent to an evil purpose. Furthermore, he learns that he is half-Lunarian and Cecil's brother.

Overcome with shame and confounded by these revelations, Golbez departs with FuSoYa to learn how to wield power responsibly. Together, he and FuSoYa confront Zemus, but their magic only destroys Zemus' mortal shell. The rest of the battle is up to Cecil.

Once Zeromus is defeated, Golbez plans to leave with FuSoYa on a journey to understand his heritage. Still overcome with remorse, he begs Cecil's forgiveness. Cecil, however, remains silent.

During the aftermath of the battle, is is implied that Golbez somehow communicated telepathically with Cecil to feel his forgiveness.
