Biography
Shadow is an assassin for hire known the world over. He is always accompanied by his faithful canine companion Interceptor, who is friendly only to Shadow and Relm (why is that, one wonders...) In the first half of the game Shadow can be found in South Figaro, the cabin north of Doma, Kohlingen, and Albrook at different times, but he can't always be recruited. Shadow's past is a mystery, but the player can view a few of Shadow's dreams if they sleep around (ha!) with him in the party. There's more! But you need to turn on spoilers to see it.
Gameplay
Shadow has high Speed and Strength with average Stamina and Magic. He can only equip daggers, Ninja blades, and light armor and shields. Shadow's Throw ability allows him to throw items to deal damage, including several specialized throwing weapons and several equipable weapons; Shadow's throwing weapons include throwing stars (Shuriken, Fuma Shuriken, and Pinwheel) and items that have magic effects (, , , , and ). Of course, other weapons can also be thrown! Keeping an arsenal of throwing weapons can get a little expensive, but they're quite effective. Shadow is good at what he does.Special Skill: Throw and Dog Block
When Shadow throws a weapon, it's gone for good. Don't worry though, you don't have to throw the weapons you've been collecting; there are three kinds of Shuriken specially designed for throwing away. When a weapon is thrown, it will become barrier-piercing, row-ignoring and unblockable and deal twice as much damage as it normally would with these properties. All special properties of the weapon thrown are disregarded, but elemental features still apply.Shadow travels the world with his dog, Interceptor. Interceptor will be a random ally in-battle, and the dog makes Shadow's appeal even greater when it comes to killing things most efficiently. When it has been decided that a physical attack would normally hit Shadow, after taking into account Invisible (but before Golem, Image and Evasion), there's a 50% chance that Interceptor will block a physical attack for you. If you actually get an Interceptor block animation, there's a further 50% chance that Interceptor will use a counter-attack (but never against another character). The only difference between the two is that one is stronger; both miss floating enemies and are non-elemental, barrier-piercing attacks. There's only one instance where Interceptor will not cover for Shadow, and this is the Floating Continent, as Interceptor is in Thamasa at the time. Also, due to a bug, Rippler can steal the "Interceptor" status away from Shadow and apply it to a monster or other character; if a monster dies with the Interceptor status, the dog will never appear in battle again.
