Job Analysis

The Red Mage is a true jack-of-all trades, whose talents lie in sheer versatility. Unlike the White Mage and the Black Mage, who specialize in one school of magic, the Red Mage is capable of casting both Black and White with equal ability. On top of this, he's a competent warrior who can equip a good range of weapons and armor. This makes the Red Mage an exceptionally flexible character who can fit into a number of roles at any given time.

Unfortunately, the Red Mage's strength is also his weakness; though he can do a whole lot of things at once, he isn't nearly as good at doing them as the others. His skills as an warrior are easily surpassed by the Warrior and the Monk, and he lacks the access to high-level spells that the other mages soon acquire. Likewise, he's arguably the most expensive character around, as you'll have to purchase lots of expensive weapons, armor, and spells to keep him working smoothly.
