16. Unnatural Selection?
Enemies: | Reptite, Cave Ape, Avian Rex, Terrasaur, Volcano |
Treasures: | Mid Ether x2, FullTonic, Meso Mail, Tonic, CeraTopper x2, FullEther, Revive |
When you enter the Tyrano Lair, you'll be assaulted by some monkeys and possibly a purple reptite. After defeating them, go into the dinosaur skull on the right and down the stairs. Free the cavemen and continue on, fighting Reptites until you get to Kino. Kino will talk to Ayla for awhile, then Ayla will break down the jail door and free him. Kino will ask you to follow him so he can show you something, but first open the ivory chest in the back of the jail cell for a Mid Ether.
Kino will take you out to the main entrance and open the left dinosaur skull, allowing you to continue on. In the next room, you can opt out of the two fights by stepping on the switches. Head out the right, and after the battles, make sure that you open the left chest only (the second opens up a hole), then head back to the room with the enemies on the trap doors and go left.
The next room you'll come to has a lot of invisible teleporters helping you evade your way to the four chests in here. The Meso Mail and CeraTopper are both good equipment, so spend a little time in here teleporting around in an attempt to get them both. Afterwards, head up the stairs.
In the next room you'll come to, past the gate, there will be two switches. They both open the skull, but using the switch on the left activates a fight. Inside the skull, hit the switch on the wall and you'll be able to go into the previously-gated door.
Hi Nizbel! What? Azala's in the back? Okay. What? You want to fight after all? Okay.

Nizbel Charge Releases Absorbed Electric Energy Nasal Gas [Poison] | None Strategy Nizbel II doesn't change much from Nizbel, original flavor. He still weakens when hit by lightning, but now he strengthens when attacked. This makes Nizbel II sound difficult, but his strength and speed are horrible, leaving you with plenty of time to attack. If you need to heal, use Frog and Ayla's Slurp Kiss tech because it heals HP and status, and he can sometimes inflict poison. Frog and Crono's dual tech Spire is deadly because not only is it powerful, it deals lightning damage and weakens Nizbel II simultaneously.
Afterward, continue on and go all the way to the right because the middle door is once again gated. The room here can be fun if you do the right switches. First, push the top switch, and a save point will appear. Then, push the left switch, and the floor will give way. Then, push the right switch, and some dinosaurs will fall down, but won't have a floor to land on. After all that, the skull is opened by simply checking it. Afterwards, go back to the middle door and enter it after two consecutive fights. Azala will be there, and an ominous roar will point towards your next boss fight. Grab the Mid Ether and the CeraTopper from the chests to the left and right of Azala's throne, and then go out the back.

Psychokinesis Teleportation / Teleports a rock! Telepathy [Sleep] | Azala Break [HP Down] Strategy Start off by focusing all of your attacks on Azala, and make sure to use Spire over and over, because Azala's weakness is lightning. She'll take a lot of hits, but will go down eventually. Don't worry about attacking the BlackTyrano until it begins storing its power, and in order to store its power, it has to lower its defense. That's when you blast it. Attack in full force, using Bubble Hit, Spire, Volt Bite, Falcon Hit, Spincut, Leap Slash, and Cat Attack to get your point across. It will probably take more than one lowering of the defense to defeat it, so be patient. Don't forget to heal before it uses its big attack with Slurp Kiss.

Afterwards, Kino will come and rescue you because Lavos is about to fall from space. Ayla tries to have pity on Azala and save her, but Azala refuses. Lavos falls, and the Tyrano Lair is destroyed. You'll have a couple scenes, and then be back on the world map. Enter the ruins of the crash site and a gate will have appeared. After going through it, you'll end up in the Dark Ages.
